Research ethics and confidentiality

There are some interesting comments around research ethics and confidentiality in the thread on gender disparities and intensive care. It's an area that we've yet to touch on and challenges researchers to think about a number of issues, including our duty of care to those who participate in our studies. For interview studies this might involve, for intsance, a process of informed consent, with individual participants and/or organisations that you'd like to involve in your study.

You can find a useful chapter on Ethics and Social Research in the book that Moira referred to in last week's lecture - Seale C (Ed):  Researching Society and Culture, London, Sage, 2012 - of which there are copies in the library.
