Assignment Clarifications and extra advice

Dear students

Following on from my lecture this morning and some questions and comments, here are some additional pieces of advice and clarification.

  1. Length: 1 printed side of A4 text = 1 page of text; you have a maximum of 8 pages plus the cover sheet. If you are thinking about a printed copy then the main text would fit 4 sheets of A4 paper printed on both sides.
  2. The four LEP experiments (you each have been alotted one speciic experiment) did change some of their technology through their lifetime, especially with the incresaing use of silicon strip tracking systems. You can report on any given era of technology for your experiment, but start with a published paper on Z0 -> leptons and discuss the specific systems used in that paper.
  3. Use the numerical "Vancouver" style of referencing (not the Harvard style), including for any figures you chose to include from published work. Any sensible numerical style is fine, but the important thing is consistency so keep the style constant. There is a very helpful guide to referencing (and literature searching) on QM+: http://qmplus.qmul.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=6819
  4. Your report does not rquire an abstract.
Please contact me if you are still unclear (watch the video of Lecture 11 which may help too). Peter Hobson
