Dear All,

As you may know the high court battle to save Lewisham hospital from losing its A&E and maternity services started yesterday. It is a public hearing and such has been the turnout of support that they have had to move to a bigger court room! Here is the story http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/10521395.Lewisham_Hospital_High_Court_battle_launches_with_optimistic_mood/

The campaign argues that Jeremy Hunt’s proposals are unlawful, and their defence begins today and concludes tomorrow afternoon. See here for campaign details: http://www.savelewishamhospital.com/.

We would encourage anyone who has the time to go down, hear the case and show your support. Members of the unit will also be there for periods over the day.  It's in Court 76,  Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand.

This is an extract from Allyson’s comment from her website:

"The major closures, redundancies, sell-offs, and service reconfigurations that will follow the TSA regime for the SLHT do not serve patients, whose needs have been, at best, down-played and at worst ignored. In the case of Lewisham hospital, there can be little doubt that the government is sacrificing a thriving local hospital in order to protect the interests of bankers, shareholders, and corporate stakeholders. The victims here are the people of south east London and those who work in and use the health services there. If the secretary of state implements the TSA recommendations, the public health consequences are likely to be catastrophic."
