Sporting Performance
Level 6 (15 credits)
Sporting Performance invites you to consider the history and practice of sport as it concerns the production and representation of identity, the politics and economics of cultural and social transaction, bodily aesthetics, and the interplay between physical and theatrical activities, sites and labour. We will review a range of historical and critical materials, as well as examining contemporary sporting events and practices. Where possible, we will visit live events, as well as considering recorded and televised materials.

Tickets for a performance or sporting event, costing approximately £30.
Why take Sporting Performance
?
- We will explore the relationships between sport and performance: using performance theory to analyse sporting events, and the logics of sport to think through performance.
- We will think through the politics of bodies in sports and performance, in relation to ideas of race, gender, sexuality, disability.
- We will discuss spectatorship across sport and performance.
