Creative Writing in the Professions

Level 6 (0 credits)

Creative Writing in the Professions provides students on the Creative Writing Pathway with opportunities to consider, and make plans for, the transition from university to working life. In this module, you will research career and further study opportunities for graduates of English with Creative Writing, including work in the publishing industry (publishing houses, small presses, literary agencies) as well as freelance work. Visiting speakers, independent research, and group workshop tasks will help you prepare an individual Strategic Plan. Creative Writing in the Professions encourages you to draw upon the thinking you have done on your degree about the values, ideologies, and practices of the cultural, publishing, and media industries, and to use that thinking to make empowered choices about work and livelihood. The module will be taught via a series of weekly workshops in semester 1. Students will meet with their advisors in Semester 2 to discuss their Strategic Plans.
