Creative Writing Prose Fiction

Level 6 (15 credits)

This module is an introduction to writing prose fiction. Through practice-based workshops and seminars, the module explores the methodologies of writing fiction from a writer's perspective, and focuses on form, structure and narrative technique. The module is delivered through weekly creative writing exercises and immersion in a process of peer critique, as well as the critical analysis of sample texts. This module cannot be selected by students enrolled on a BA "with Creative Writing" Programme.

Preparing for this Module and Approximate Costs

In advance of Week 1, students should have at least begun, and preferably completed, reading the following two novels:

Raven Leilani, Luster  (Picador, 2020)

Kazuo ishiguro, Never Let Me Go (Faber, 2005)

We will also be reading several short stories:

We will look at additional short fiction, for which we will provide PDFs. 

 


Primary texts costing approximately £45.

Note that these costs can be often be reduced by purchasing items second-hand or borrowing them from the Library.
