Why take
Creative Writing Poetry and Performance
?

  • You will think about poetry and performance in relation to other mediums and genres - on and off the page, across genres and mediums, spanning cultural contexts - and experiment with a variety of practices and techniques.
  • This module is offered to you as an opportunity to try out forms, styles, and voices that you may not have tried before. Beginning with experimental poetics, we challenge preconceptions of poetry and performance from the start, setting aside notions of what makes a piece "good" or "bad"
  • Instead, we'll ask: what makes language surprising, mysterious, difficult; why do some pieces require multiple readings and interpretations; how can we use poetic practices to help us articulate and share complex ideas and experiences?
