Jacobi operators form the simplest natural class of self-adjoint operators with a non-trivial spectral theory. The spectral properties of Jacobi operators plays an important role in the mathematical description of several phenomena in quantum mechanics. The project will start from a gentle introduction and proceed to some interesting questions.
