Title: Multifractals
Supervisor:
Research Area: Dynamical Systems and Statistical Physics
Description:

For fractal systems there is not only a single fractal dimension but an entire set of dimension functions, the Renyi dimensions. These can be used to characterize fractals in a more general way, given a probability measure on the fractal support. One often speaks of 'multifractals' in this context. The project is to review these concepts, and calculate examples of the dimension spectrum for some simple example systems.
