Title: Amenable groups
Supervisor:
Research Area: Geometry and Analysis
Description:

Amenability of groups is a notion going back to John von Neumann and closely related to the Banach-Tarski paradox. It provides a bridge between algebraic and analytic aspects of group theory and has many applications in several areas in mathematics. The goal of this project is to develop the basics of amenability such as equivalent characterizations and concrete examples.
