Funder and Institutional Open Access Mandates

The Wellcome Trust has always been an Open Access advocate and has mandated that papers published as a result of research funded by them is published using an Open Access publication route.  It has entered into agreements with UK and US publishers to ensure that researchers complied with its Open Access mandates.

Following the Finch Report, however, The Wellcome Trust has gone even further and is asking, effective from 1 April 2013, all research papers produced as a result of their funding to have a commercial re-use permission attached if the publisher has been paid to publish the paper.  Read below The Wellcome Trust guide for researchers publishing a paper as a result of research funded by the Trust (available at http://www.wellcome.ac.uk/stellent/groups/corporatesite/@policy_communications/documents/web_document/WTVM050569.pdf).
