https://www.qmul.ac.uk/outreach/parents-and-carers/student-support-services-/Cancer biology is a broad field and is one of the most researched fields in science. We aim to take you through the main subjects associated with cancer and have experts in the field teach you during the course. Teachers include active scientists and clinicians so you will get a fantastic overview of the basic biology through to how we treat patients. The course follows the 'Hallmarks of Cancer' and this will be introduced to you in your first lecture. The lectures will look at the individual hallmarks and related biology . The coursework is two-fold 1) A short piece of science writing (topics given out later) and 2) An essay on either how we can improve diagnosis or treatment in cancer (the choice of cancer is up to you!).
We teach at the Willoughby lecture theatre at the Charterhouse Square Campus. This is at the heart of the Barts Cancer Institute and we feel strongly that Cancer Biology should be in the middle of where cancer research happens. This permits us to have clinical lecturers who work at Barts Hospital.
We hope you enjoy the course, we are excited to see you all and to get to know you over Semester A.
Good luck!
Katiuscia and Stuart
