Starting from the energy levels of single atoms and molecules, this module uses statistical principles to explain the behaviour of bulk materials. It thus relates microscopic to macroscopic quantities, provides a microscopic explanation of thermodynamics, and bridges between quantum physics and the behaviour of everyday matter.
