DRA351 - Writing about the Arts - 2023/24

This module is designed to familiarise students with a range of writing practices in the arts. The focus will be on specific writing tasks that will serve to introduce students to different types of writing in the arts. This will likely include, for example, theatre and film reviews, features, and coverage of an exhibition. It will cover key issues in Arts journalism that will heighten your awareness of who you are writing for and how to shape your writing to 'fit' the designated readership of a particular broadsheet/media outlet. Encounters with different writing practices will be accompanied by readings of relevant critical texts and manuals which will enable you to write creatively and productively about a range different artistic practices.
