    COURSE SUMMARY AND CONTENT
    Welcome to the QMUL MSc in Perioperative Medicine, where we are redefining healthcare for surgical patients by focusing on comprehensive, patient-centered approaches. This multidisciplinary programme is designed for healthcare professionals aiming to enhance their skills in managing patient care before, during, and after surgery.

    Perioperative care addresses the entire surgical journey, from preoperative risk assessment and patient education to postoperative recovery and long-term outcomes. This holistic approach supports patients in making informed decisions while improving surgical outcomes, reducing complications, and promoting faster recovery. The programme will take you through the theory, patient journey, surgical specialties and underlying research that underpins modern perioperative care.

    Through this MSc, you will also develop expertise in managing complex comorbidities, implementing intraoperative best practices, and employing enhanced recovery techniques. You’ll engage with case studies, interactive seminars, and clinical placements, ensuring you are equipped with the latest skills and knowledge in perioperative care.



    The course comprises of 8 taught modules and a dissertation module:

    Module 3 (WHR7092): The Pre-Operative Journey

    Module 4 (WHR7014): Research and Audit Methodology

    Module 5 (WHR7093): Post-operative Care

    Module 6 (WHR7094): Medicine for Perioperative Practice

    Module 7 (WHR7095): Perioperative Care of Surgical Specialities

    Module 8 (WHR7017): Multidisciplinary team in critical care (distance learning programme) or Observership Module (residential programme)

    Module 9 (WHR7099): Dissertation
