Oral Surgery is the branch of dentistry that deals with extracting teeth and surgical procedures in and around the mouth. However it also encompasses the management of pathological conditions of the soft and hard tissues of the mouth, disorders of the masticatory apparatus, traumatic injuries to the teeth and bones of the jaws and immediately surrounding bones. It is closely linked to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and in some areas the boundaries between the two specialties overlap.  Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery teaching forms part of the Oral Cavity group.
