Development and training for PhD students
As part of your assessment and progression during your time in the School of Mathematical Sciences we require you to:

Take 30 credits of taught modules during your first year.

Complete the Research Integrity Training for PGR Students and Export Controls for PGRs Training before the first-year annual review meeting.

Complete the Development Needs Analysis Form together with your supervisor before the first-year annual review meeting.

Undertaking professional development or academic training and record this in the Skills Point Database.
We also strongly recommend that you undertake the following activities:

Give several research seminars in the School of Mathematical Sciences.

Give a talk or present a poster at a national conference (e.g. a postgraduate conference).

Attend at least one international conference.

Lead tutorials and mark coursework for undergraduate modules. See “Teaching and Marking” below.
PhD Skills Points System:
The new Skills Points Plug-In is available to use within the CPD system. You will be able to submit Skills Points via CPD, where you will find a ‘Skills Points’ option across the top navigation menu.
