Things to do before Welcome Week
Section outline
-
1 . Your QM email account
All official QMUL communications including messages from the School of the Arts are sent to your QMUL email account only (ending "@qmul.ac.uk"), you must check it daily.
Hopefully you've already received your QMUL email address and ITS credentials (check your personal email and junk folder carefully if you haven't received this information). Before your welcome sessions begin, please ensure you have logged into your QMUL email account because important messages have already been sent to you.
QMUL email (along with many other core computing resources) is provided as a Microsoft Office 365 service. To sign in to your university email address you will need your Queen Mary username (e.g. le20123) and password. When you login to email (and other QMUL Microsoft Office 365 services) you must always append the QMUL domain ("@qmul.ac.uk") to your username e.g. le20123@qmul.ac.uk.
To check your QM email , go to: https://mail.qmul.ac.uk. Alternatively you can log into Microsoft services at https://office.com and click "Outlook".
The QMUL IT Service Desk is your first point of contact for all things IT related. If you have not received your QM email address and IT credentials please do contact them (we recommend using the IT live Chat function). You can find it here: https://qmul.bomgarcloud.com/

2. MS Teams
You will use the Microsoft (MS) Teams application whilst studying at QM. You can open MS Teams in a web-based version via Office 365 or download the full app to your computer or mobile device.
MS Teams enables us to have virtual meetings, live chats and share files together. MS Teams is part of Microsoft Office 365 which is available for QMUL students to download for free. Please install Microsoft Office 365 on your device using your QM credentials as soon as possible. For an instruction video on how to download and install Microsoft Office 365 for free as a QM student watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58FIAelSoO4
Once you download Microsoft Office 365 you will be able to launch MS Teams on your own device.
Launching and Logging into MS Teams:
Sign In & Password:
Sign in to MS Teams with your usual QMUL credentials for Office 365 (e.g. le20123@qmul.ac.uk) and your usual password. Once you have launched MS Teams, you can join sessions / meetings using specially created meeting links and/ or calendar invites. Please join events promptly at the start time - you will miss out if you're late!
For more help see the IT Services Help Pages.
3. QMplus
QMplus is QMUL's virtual learning environment (VLE). It provides key information for the modules you will study, allows you to make assignment submissions and enables access to lecture recordings where appropriate. New students will attend an e-Learning training session and a QMplus Q&A as part of their induction. In advance, please watch the 'Brief introduction to QMplus' video.

4. Enrolment/ Student ID Card Collection
Enrolment is an online process for 2025-26 so you won't have to attend campus in order to become fully enrolled. However, you must complete the pre-enrolment task in MySIS as soon as it is available to you in order to confirm your status as a student at QMUL, and maintain access to learning resources and other facilities.
Enrolment is centrally managed at QMUL and is not managed by the School of the Arts. You can find further information about the online enrolment process here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/newstudents/enrolment/
Student ID Card Collection:
Once you have been granted full or temporary enrolment you will be able to book an appointment via MySIS to collect your student ID card from an AskQM Hub.
You will find the booking task under the 'My Enrolment' tab in MySIS. Please note the task will only appear if:
Once you have entered the task, please select your chosen AskQM Hub from the drop-down list and book a date/time convenient for you. You can book now for a later date.
- iQ East Court, Mile End: Appointments available from Monday 1st September
- Mile End Library: Appointments available from Monday 15th September
Appointments are available September-October so don't worry if there are no available appoints on your first few days on campus! You do not need an ID card as soon as you arrive on campus.
Please note:
- Take a screenshot of your booking or have your confirmation email ready as you will need to show this to a member of staff before they can produce your card
- You cannot collect your ID card without an appointment so please do not just turn up as you will be directed to book an appointment. Don't panic if you cannot book an appointment for your first few days on campus!
- Your booking is only valid for the Hub you have booked at. If you want to collect your card from a different Hub, please return to the task, cancel your booking and book a new appointment for the preferred location
- You can currently only book an appointment at the Mile End Campus but appointments at the Whitechapel Campus and Lincoln's Inn Fields Campus will be available soon. Please revisit this section for updates on when you can book at these Hubs.
- If you have missed your appointment, you can cancel you booking and book another appointment within the task
Drop-in SessionsIf you arrive to the university late and bookings are closed or there are no suitable appointments left to book, don't worry. You can collect your ID card by visiting us during a drop-in session instead.
Drop-in sessions begin on Monday 6th October only. If wanting to collect your card before this date, you require an appointment. More information about the drop-in sessions will be made available on the 'Collecting your Student ID Card' webpage (available here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/newstudents/enrolment/student-id/) at the start of October.
