Welcome to Law in Context. This is a compulsory module for all first year students other than Senior Status students and Law with Business students. It is a 15 credit module which runs in Semester A only. The module will introduce you to legal skills such as legal research, interpreting case law, legal writing and how to structure a legal argument. You will then be encouraged to consider your future careers, within and outside the legal professions and you will develop your employability skills by means of CV writing and networking skills. This second half of the module will include sessions on selling yourself online (job application questions and psychometric test) and selling yourself on paper (interviews, assessment centres and networking).

The module consists of a series of online lectures which you will find below; you should listen to the relevant lecture in advance of each week's seminar. You should also read the articles or websites to which you are directed in advance of the seminars. There will then be a two hour seminar which you must attend in your allocated group. These seminars will begin with questions on the preparatory lectures and reading materials. You must come to the seminar having pre-read the instructions for that week which are contained within the module handbook and having duly prepared for the seminar.

The module will be summatively assessed by means of a five minute video presentation on your Personal Career Development Plan submitted to QMPlus. There will also be an opportunity for you to prepare a CV and covering letter.
