This module introduces to students, for whom the English language may not be their first language, some of the contemporary themes in Human Geography. We commence the first semester by examining the nature of Human Geography and, over the weeks, we explore issues that are relevant to Human Geography: globalisation in relation to the fashion industry, media and technology, and food security; the concept of local-global with reference to poverty, gender and development, climate change and climate justice; international migration and its impacts on nations, race and identity. We also explain and illustrate the importance of taking intersectional approaches in doing human geography. Human Geography is about these and many more aspects of worldly existence. Throughout the semester themes are examined through lectures, podcasts, documentaries, TED Talks and seminar activities.
