Introduction to the perturbative formulation of string theories. The topics that we will cover include the classical physics of strings, and the quantization of bosonic and superstrings, perturbative aspects of D-branes, duality symmetries. Also a brief overview of more advanced topics in string theory will be given towards the end of the course.
