The QMUL Critical Care MSc is a programme intended for clinicians, senior nursing and allied health professionals working in Intensive Care Medicine and emergency services, to gain skills and knowledge in the speciality and obtain a higher degree through distance learning mode of study. With an aging population, often with high burden of chronic illness, as well as the increasing scope and availability of treatments, Critical Care Medicine is a rapidly expanding field across the world. Intensive care is a young and expanding specialty. Trainee doctors, specialist nurses and allied health professionals play a key role in the delivery of safe and effective patient care within the specialty which is highly technical, and rapidly evolving evidence base.
The course will provide a theoretical basis for gaining competence in the general aspects of managing the critically ill or injured patient. The student will also develop and demonstrate competence in the production of critical reviews and theoretical research activities. The course will provide participants with a thorough grounding in the discipline together with the tools to maintain their knowledge base through a course of advanced, specialist instruction.

Module 5: Decision making, communication and ethics

Module 8: Multidisciplinary team in critical care
