About the course
MATLAB, a high-level language and interactive environment, is used for numerical computation, visualisation, and programming. The module will cover fundamental concepts such as data structures, function creation, and algorithm development. Emphasis will be placed on practical applications, allowing students to implement complex mathematical calculations and develop graphical user interfaces for data analysis.
This course is designed to help students get to a practical level of MATLAB, so if faced with a modelling question you can tackle it. This type of questioning will appear throughout your MSc, be it the summer project or a module. Having MATLAB as a tool to help you on this quest is a major advantage as you will be able to break down problems easily and find solutions. The examples given in this course will be from the area of finance and economics but will all be linked to statistics and data analysis.
