SOLM256 - International Commercial Arbitration - 2023/24

The aim of this module is to provide a comprehensive understanding of how arbitration works to students on any LLM programme at Queen Mary other than the LLM in international dispute resolution. While no prior knowledge of arbitration is required or expected, this module will not be a cursory or superficial treatment of the subject and we will consider all the key themes covered in the specialist arbitration modules. Students on this module will learn the fundamental institutions and legal sources that make up the international arbitration system, along with the challenges and policy issues that will shape how international arbitration develops in the future. Students will also develop a comprehensive understanding of how arbitration works and is practiced; including all the strategic considerations, practical skills and policy implications that are involved in representing parties in international arbitration.
