Welcome to EMS402U,

EMS402U will provide you with an introduction to some tools used in engineering design, including the use of engineering drawing and the use of CAD in design. You will gain workshop and model-building skills too. You will be tackling a real-life design problem in. This year's theme is net-zero built environment.

Where/When? You will be working in groups (4-5 members) on your own mini design project. You will be allocated a group at the beginning of the semester. There is no prerequisite reading or preparation (Yippee). Everything about this module will be explained in Week 1 (Mondayday 25th September). This is our 'Instruction Meeting'. Before then, just make sure you know where to go for the first session - Preston Lecture Theatre is on the ground floor of the Graduate Centre. You have been allocated a 09:00 or 11:00 session. Sessions start 5 minutes past the hour promptly, so don't be late! CAD training starts in Week 2; workshop sessions start in Week 3. How this will work will be explained in Week 1 at our Instruction Meeting.

Assessment: There is no exam on EMS402U (Yippee). But there are two significant pieces of design work you must complete to pass this module. These will be explained in our Week 1 Instruction Meeting.

If you have any question please ask them at our first Instruction Meeting in Week 1 or use the Module Forum. This way we can all benefit from the answer :)

I look forward to seeing you.

Best regards, YZ
