Applied Dental Materials is designed to equip students with an understanding of:

• Tooth development and the complex structure and interrelationships of natural tooth tissues.
• The aggressive nature of the oral environment and the varied ways in which materials can respond to this environment.
• The aesthetic and functional demands placed on teeth and the varied ways in which materials can meet these demands.

This will be achieved through examination of the underpinning materials science and engineering that dictates the selection, usage and design of dental materials and devices in clinical practice today.

Successful students will develop an informed insight into the uses and limitations of current and emerging dental materials, equipping them with skills key to careers in both clinical practice and commercial dental materials innovation and development
