Adding a Scheduler activity

The scheduler activity icon

The Scheduler activity will allow you to schedule appointments with your students. As a teacher you can specify time slots for meetings, which students can choose on QMplus and also schedule  specific appointments for students.  You can also record the outcome of the meeting - and optionally grade the meeting - within scheduler.

Group scheduling is also supported in scheduler which makes it possible to schedule appointments for entire groups at the same time.

Using the Checklist activity to keep students on track

A checklist allows a teacher to create a list of items that their students can work through and tick off as they have completed them. It provides teachers with an overview of the progress their students have made and the number of activities they have completed.

Database tool in QMplus

an image of the database icon

The Database activity in QMplus is a very flexible tool. It can be used by staff to organise and display information such as lists of project topics or it can be configured to allow students to collaborate to create a shared resource, such as book reviews or useful study resources.

A database can contain a variety of different information including, text, images, files, geo location information and web addresses. You can customise how the information in the database is displayed including forms for entering information into the database and how existing entries are displayed.

It is also possible to allow commenting and rating of database entries which means that the database can be used as an assessed activity.

Although the database is a very flexible tool, there are two things that are worth noting:

  1. Although called a Database activity, this will not provide you with any sophisticated relational database functionality, it is a simple flat database. You cannot define database queries.
  2. It is possible to customise the look and fe,el of the database in a variety of ways. This does require knowledge of writing HTML.

Creating a Glossary

An image of the glossary icon

A QMplus glossary allows tutors (and potentially, students) to create and maintain a list of key words and definitions. This user guide also demonstrates how the ‘Random glossary entry Block’ can be used in partnership with the glossary to create greater awareness of the glossary’s content. An example is a ‘Word of the day’.
