In this guide, we will explore how to access the editing tools available in MediaSpace. We will cover the process of adding interactive elements such as quizzes and hotspots, as well as how to trim, cut, and split your video for a polished final product.
A hotspot in QMplus Media is an interactive element placed on a video that viewers can click to perform actions, such as jumping to a different part of the video, accessing external links, or displaying additional information. Hotspots enhance viewer engagement by making the video more interactive and informative.
Introduction / Log In
In this guide, we will explore how to access the editing tools available in MediaSpace. We will cover the process of adding interactive elements such as quizzes and hotspots, as well as how to trim, cut, and split your video for a polished final product.
- Access your MediaSpace account VIA https://media.qmplus.qmul.ac.uk/.
- Click on the user menu (person icon)
- In the dropdown menu click on Login.
- Enter your QMUL credentials.

Creating a Quiz
A QMplus Media quiz is an interactive feature that allows instructors to embed questions at specific points in a video, enabling viewers to answer questions while watching, which can enhance engagement and assess understanding of the content.
We are looking at adding a Quiz to a video within the Media Space. If you would like to add a quiz within QMplus please see a different guide.
To add a quiz to a video in MediaSpace, follow these steps:
- Click on the + Create button
- Select "Add New" and choose "Video Quiz."
- Choose an existing video by clicking on select or upload a new one.
- The Quiz Editor will open. Play the video and pause where you want to insert a question.
- Click "Add a Question" and choose from Multiple Choice, True/False, or Open-Ended questions. Enter the question and answers, then save.
- Finalize Quiz: After adding all questions, click "Done" to complete the quiz setup
Creating Hotspots
A hotspot in QMplus Media is an interactive element placed on a video that viewers can click to perform actions, such as jumping to a different part of the video, accessing external links, or displaying additional information. Hotspots enhance viewer engagement by making the video more interactive and informative.
To add hotspots to a video in Media Space:
- Find the video you wish to edit in your My Media library and click on it
- Within the video player click on the ellipses, within the drop-down menu click on "Launch editor"
- Open Hotspot Editor: Click the "Hotspots" icon on the left side of the screen to access the hotspot editor.
- Add Hotspot: Click "+ Add Hotspot." You can then drag the hotspot to your desired location on the video screen
- Configure Hotspot: Enter text or a URL for the hotspot. Adjust its size, position, and appearance using the hotspot menu. Clicking on advanced settings will offer more options.
- Set Timing: Use the timeline to determine when the hotspot appears and disappears during video playback.
- Save Changes: After adding and configuring all desired hotspots, click "Save" to apply your changes
Video editor
QMplus Medias video editor provides tools to split, trim, and edit videos, including a split tool for dividing segments, trim options to set start and end points, a delete tool for removing sections, fade effects for smooth transitions, and a timeline for precise navigation and manipulation of video content.

To use the editor on a video in Media Space:
- Find the video you wish to edit in your My Media library and click on it
- Within the video player click on the ellipses, within the drop-down menu click on "Launch editor"
- Click on the video editor icon (the square in the middle)
Trim Start/End Points
- Drag the blue handles on the timeline
- -Adjust the start and end points of your video
- Preview the trimmed section before saving
- Click on the timeline where you want to split
- Use the "Split" tool
- Delete unwanted segments
- Rearrange video sections if needed
- Use frame-by-frame navigation buttons
- Precise second-level trimming available
- Preview changes in real-time
- Click "Save" to replace original video
- Choose "Save a Copy" to create new version
- Always preview before final save
- Ensure important content remains intact
- Check video length after trimming
