  • 30 credits of ESH-coded modules from List 1 or List 2
  • 30 credits of ESH-coded optional modules from List 1, List 2, List 3 or List 4

Students MUST choose their modules from one of the following combinations:

COMBINATION 1 – 60–60 balance across both subjects:

  • 60 credits History Special Subject
  • 60 credits of ESH-coded modules at Level 6

COMBINATION 2 – 75 credits in History, 45 credits in English:

  • 60 credits History Special Subject
  • 15 credits from HST6***A OR HST6***B-coded modules
  • 45 credits of ESH-coded modules at Level 6

COMBINATION 3 – 60–60 balance with English Dissertation:

  • ESH6000 English Dissertation (30 credits)
  • 30 credits of ESH-coded modules at Level 6
  • HST6001 History Essay 1 (10 credits)
  • HST6002 History Essay 2 (10 credits)
  • 40 credits of HST6****-coded modules

  • You are required to take 120 credits in each academic year. It is not possible to take less or more than 120 credits.
  • Pay attention to the semester balance of modules, you will need to take 60 credits in each semester. A 75 credits in Semester 1 and 45 credits in Semester 2 split will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. Any other imbalance of module weightings will not be allowed.
  • You need to take modules which match your current level of study i.e. Level 5 modules for Year 2, Level 6 modules for Final Year.
  • Students may choose an optional language module at a lower or higher level than their developmental year provided their language level is appropriate for the chosen level and their programme allows this option.
