- You are required to take 120 credits in each academic year. It is not possible to take less or more than 120 credits.
- Pay attention to the semester balance of modules, you will need to take 60 credits in each semester. A 75 credits in Semester 1 and 45 credits in Semester 2 split will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. Any other imbalance of module weightings will not be allowed.
- You are strongly encouraged to take modules which match your current level of study i.e. Level 5 modules for Year 2, Level 6 modules for Final Year. If you do choose to request modules at a different level to your developmental year, do consider that this could have consequences which may effect your progression/classification.
- Students entering their first year in Sept 2026 - You can only take modules at Level 4.
- Students may choose an optional language module at a lower or higher level than their developmental year provided their language level is appropriate for the chosen level and their programme allows this option.
-
If your programme allows you to take modules outside your discipline, you can request to take up to 30 credits of optional modules from STA or another School in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at your level of study. Requests are subject to permission being received from the other School. Please be aware that class size limits, pre-requisites and priority being given to their own students may mean your request is rejected.
-
The School of Law and the School of Business and Management are not accepting elective requests.
-
The School of Society and Environment (subject areas: Geography, History and Politics) usually consider requests from students outside of their School.
-
The School of Economics and Finance consider requests from students who meet the pre-requisites for ECN243 Introduction to Banking and ECN231 Economics of Social Issues only.
