Introduction
This guide is intended for staff who are creating and marking video assignments. For information on how students submit a video assignment, please refer to the student submission guide.
To create a video assignment in QMplus using EchoVideo (Q‑Review), you must use a standard Assignment activity. You will need an appropriate role on the module (for example, Teacher) to access the required settings.
The Technology Enhanced Learning Team (TELT)are always happy to provide general advice and support. You may also wish to consult your school‑based learning technologist to confirm any local or departmental requirements, such as Turnitin use.

Step 4: Add assignment details
Complete the assignment settings as follows:
- Assignment name
Enter a clear, descriptive name. Follow any existing course or departmental naming conventions. -
Description (optional)
Provide an overview of the assignment.
Tick Display description on course page if you want students to see this information on the main module page. -
Activity instructions (optional)
Add any specific instructions for students. These appear on the submission page only. -

You can restrict these files so they appear only on the submission page if required.
Step 5: Adjust assignment settings
Most settings can be configured in the same way as a standard QMplus assignment (for example, availability dates, group settings, and grading options). However, the following settings are essential for video assignments.
Submission types
-
Tick Online text
This is required so students can embed their Q‑Review video. -
If you also want students to submit a document (for example, a written report), tick File submissions as well.
Turnitin settings (optional)
- Turnitin can be enabled via the Turnitin plagiarism plugin settings
- Any uploaded files (not the video itself) will be checked by Turnitin
When you are happy with the settings, select Save and return to course or Save and display.
Your assignment submission link is now ready to use

- If you also want students to upload a file (for example, a report), tick File submission as well as Online text.

- Within the "Turnitin plagiarism plugin settings" Turnitin can be enabled, and any uploaded file will be sent to Turnitin for checking.

Once you are happy with your selections. Save it and your submission link is ready to use.

Tips for Video Assignments
- Make sure students know how to submit a video assignment
- We recommend sharing the student guide in advance
Strongly advise students to:
- Include the assignment number and assignment title in their video title
- Use a standard naming convention to help staff track submissions in EchoVideo
Example naming convention:
ModuleCode_AssignmentNumber_AssignmentTitle_StudentID
Example:
ENG201_Assignment2_Presentation_123456789
Using a consistent format makes it much easier to locate, manage, and mark videos in EchoVideo. Without this, identifying assignments can be difficult.
Remind students that:
- Uploading and processing large video files can take time
- Uploads are often faster when working on campus
- Video assignments cannot be completed at the last minute
