1. The CTG
Introduction
This is a non invasive method for keeping an eye on the health of the baby during labour.
It is the FIRST thing that a midwife will do when the mother lies on the bed in the labour ward.
It produces a tape which it looks at the electrical activity of the uterus - at the same time listening to the heart.
A skilled midwife and obstetrician link the two and can tell if the baby is in distress.
