12. Assessment

12.8. Final Assessment Exercise and Online Examination

Formatting Recommendations

There is no official style guide for formatting your Final Assessment Exercise or Online Examination submission. However, to ensure clarity and consistency, we recommend the following:

  • Font: Use a standard, readable font such as Times New RomanArial, or Calibri
  • Font size: 12-point for the main text
  • Line spacing: Double spaced
  • Margins: Minimum of 2 cm on all sides
  • Citations: Required for all assessments. You may use either:
    • Inline citations, or
    • Footnotes (no smaller than 10-point font, ideally in the same font as the main text).

Title Page Requirements

Your submission must include a title page (or cover sheet) containing the following information only:

  • Module number (e.g. SOLM001)
  • Module title
  • Final word count
  • Student ID number (not your username - this can be found in MySIS or on your student ID card)
  • Your name must not appear anywhere on the assessment.

You may use colour, formatting, or graphics on the title page if you wish, although this is not required.

Please note: A separate title page template is not provided. You may create the title page yourself as the first page of your assignment.

Word Count Guidelines for FAEs

Word counts for FAEs may vary by module. You should therefore ensure that you are aware of the specific requirements for your module before attempting the assessment.

Please check with your Module Convenor for details of:

  • the word limit;
  • the number of questions to be answered; and
  • any additional assessment instructions.

Note: On the day of release, students will receive detailed instructions in the rubric cover accompanying the assessment.

Word Count Guidelines for Online Examination

The word count for online examinations is normally:

  • 3,700 words for 30-credit modules; and
  • 2,500 words for 15-credit modules.

Alternative word limits may apply at the discretion of the Module Convenor. You should therefore check the requirements for your module in advance.

Note: Detailed instructions will be included in the examination rubric, which will be available when the examination paper is released on the date and at the time stated in your examination timetable.
