5. Key Dates

The academic year for an MSc student consists of a one-week induction and enrolment period, followed by two 12-week teaching semesters, a 2-week examination period in January, a 5-week examination period in May, and 14 weeks in which to complete a project dissertation. During the induction and enrolment period, you should agree the elective modules in your programme for the year with your Programme Director.

Late Summer Examination Period Results

We will endeavour to release provisional results by early September (this is an estimated provisional date and will likely change).

Graduation Dates

Summer Graduation usually takes place in mid-July and Winter Graduation usually takes place in mid-December or early January. All Graduation dates will be confirmed later in the academic year, and all information can be found here: http://www.qmul.ac.uk/graduation/.

Individual Coursework and Assessment Submission Dates

Any individual module coursework or assessment dates are noted on the module QMplus pages, and all students will be notified of key submission deadlines during lectures and tutorials, as well via module announcement emails. Reminders will be sent out regularly to all students.

Extenuating circumstances claim deadlines

In general, extenuating circumstances applications should be made as soon as possible after the deadline for the assignment has passed. In most cases, the university will expect claims to be made within seven days of the original deadline (for a piece of coursework).

 

The School of Mathematical Sciences extenuating circumstances (EC) deadlines are noted below:

In-term assessments e.g. coursework, mid-term test etc.:

·         7 calendar days after the original indicated deadline for all in-term assessment

 

For an exam or final project/assessment within the Examination Periods:

·         5 calendar days after the last date of the Examination Period

With the exception of the following

·         the Late Summer Resit Examination Period – August 2026 which is within 4 calendar days after the last date of the Examination Period

 

·         Dissertations which are 7 calendar days after the original indicated deadline

Wednesday 10th June 2026 at 5pm

for matters relating to Main Examination period for Semester 2 & Year Long Modules – May/June 2026

Claims submitted after the relevant deadline will not be considered.
